"It is a wholesome and necessary thing for us to turn again to the earth and in the contemplation of her beauties to know the sense of wonder and humility."

- Rachel Carson

Author, Marine Biologist, Conservationist

At Hawthorne, we believe in involvement in our community, to share our expertise and love for green spaces and live up to Rachel Carson’s message: it is inherent upon us to preserve and protect nature, so we can cherish it and find in it rejuvenation and purpose.

Tamara serves on the Board and is head of the landscape committee of the
Tregaron Conservancy, a non-profit organization that focuses on the restoration and maintenance of the 13-acre historic garden located between Woodley Park and Cleveland Park. She also volunteers in local public schools, to ensure students, parents, and staff may fully benefit from their gardens.

“It’s a privilege to be able to apply what we do best—design and plant selection—to impactful long-term projects for the environment and the community,” says Tamara. “Whether it’s strengthening a site of environmental and historic importance, like Tregaron, or connecting people with the earth, through tours or school gardens, our goal is to ensure future generations will have green space and fresh air to enjoy.”
