Design Intent:
-
Transform the rear garden of a row house for dining and entertaining, and add parking and bike storage areas.
-
Re-grade to move water away from rear steps to basement and foundation.
Implementation: The rear garden of a DC Row House was overgrown and was only used as a passage to the garage. An outdoor kitchen with: built-in ceramic egg; garbage can; cooler and bar area were installed. A privacy screen was installed to divide the garden area from the utility area—parking, bike storage and garbage cans. A new pathway was constructed towards basement steps and new grading pushes water to percolate in garden beds and away from the house.
